Rev. Dr. Bob Kaylor is a native western Pennsylvanian, born in Pittsburgh and raised in and around Slippery Rock, PA. He earned a BA in History from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1986, was commissioned as an Infantry officer in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard through Army ROTC in 1984, and served in the 28th Infantry Division.
After several years of soldiering and working civilian jobs in commercial radio, corporate security, and youth ministry, Bob felt a call to ordained ministry and entered Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY, graduating with a Master of Divinity in 1995. He was ordained an Elder in the United Methodist Church in 1997 and is a clergy member of the Rocky Mountain Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He served churches in Carlisle, PA, Colorado Springs, CO, and Park City, UT, before being appointed as Lead Pastor at Tri-Lakes UMC in 2010. Bob earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in 2012, writing his dissertation on clergy leadership transitions.
In addition to being Lead Pastor at Tri-Lakes UMC, Bob is also the author of the bi-monthly preaching journal Homiletics and author of Your Best Move: Effective Leadership Transition for the Local Church, published by Seedbed, Asbury Seminary’s resource ministry. He has published curriculum through the United Methodist Publishing House, including the book Come to the Manger in 2008. He has also written for the Upper Room Disciplines and for a variety of periodicals.
Bob has been happily married to Jennifer since 1987 and they have two adult children, Hannah and Rob. Bob enjoys reading history and theology, rock and jazz drumming, hiking and biking, and following his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins.
